William H. "Red" McCormick, Sr., 89, on March 15, 2024

William Henry McCormick, Sr., affectionately known as "Red" for his vibrant red hair, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 89, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born on January 16, 1935, in Boston, MA, he was the beloved son of the late John McCormick and Sarah (McSweeny) McCormick.

Growing up in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston during the Great Depression, Red's resilient spirit was shaped by the challenges of his time. Despite having to leave school at a young age to help support his family, Red's dedication and work ethic remained unwavering throughout his life. He spent the majority of his career as a truck driver for BFI Waste Management, proudly serving as a member of the Teamsters Union. Red's entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he also ventured into his own business, cleaning a meat packing plant on weekends.

Beyond his work, Red was a devoted family man. He found great joy in supporting his sons and grandson at North Attleboro High School football games, and cherished family outings to places like Southwick Zoo and Diamond Hill Park, always concluding with a treat from the Ice Cream Machine in Cumberland, RI after visiting the latter. A true embodiment of Irish generosity, Red was selfless in his giving and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Red is survived by his six sons: William H. McCormick, Jr. of Missouri; James W. McCormick of Attleboro; and Darin P. McCormick; Richard A. McCormick; and Peter C. McCormick all of North Attleboro. He was a cherished Pop-Pop to 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Margaret "Peggy" McCormick of Braintree, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Keith J. McCormick, and siblings Joan, Teresa, Hilda, Paul, Robert "Bobby", and John "Ty".

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Red's funeral on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, beginning with visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish), 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, celebrated by the Reverend David A. Costa. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
