Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home Obituaries

Hugh W. "Bill" Donnelly, 71, on December 5, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Hugh William "Bill" Donnelly, affectionately known as Bill, of North Attleboro. Bill departed this life on December 5th, 2023 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, leaving a legacy of love, adventure, and dedication. He was 71 years old.

Bill was born to Dorothea "Dot" and the late Hugh "Bud" Donnelly, and from this loving foundation, he grew into a man of many talents and passions. His career as a Chief Financial Officer and a Pilot for various international airlines reflected his love for travel and exploring the world. His professional achievements were many, but they never overshadowed his devotion to his family, including his mother Dot, his siblings, Michael and Noreen and his children, Christopher and Shannon Donnelly, who were the lights of his life.

A true family man at heart, Bill's love for his children was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a devout New England sports fan, particularly of the Patriots, sharing his enthusiasm and game updates with his son Christopher whenever they were apart. His love for music, especially for Stevie Nicks, led to many memorable concert experiences shared with his daughter Shannon. These moments, filled with laughter and joy, are cherished memories that will forever echo in their hearts.

Bill's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His love for the church and God was profound, and it guided him through his life's journey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his honor on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish), 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, where friends and family can gather to remember a life well-lived. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Visitation is respectfully omitted and arrangements are entrusted to the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, North Attleboro, MA.

In his memory, Bill's children request that in lieu of flowers, people spend time with their families at a sporting event or concert. This gesture captures the essence of Bill's spirit – a man who valued family connections, shared experiences, and the joy of living.

As we bid farewell to Bill, a proud Irishman, we find comfort in a piece of wisdom from his ancestral land: 'May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back.' This Irish blessing mirrors Bill's journey through life. His spirit, now free, continues to soar high, like the planes he once piloted, with love and blessings following him wherever he goes. Rest in peace, Bill. Your journey continues not only on this earth but in the hearts of those you've touched.
