Douglas E. Corbett (Ret. NAFD), 78, on November 3, 2023

Douglas E. Corbett, of Oak Hill Avenue in Attleboro, formerly of Smithfield, RI, and North Attleboro, MA, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn H. (Mercier) Corbett.

Born in Attleboro, MA on January 8, 1945, he was a son of the late Albert H. Corbett and Gladys M. (Carpenter) Corbett. Doug grew up in North Attleboro and went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served actively in Vietnam from 1964 to 1968 and continued in the reserves until 1970, stationed on the USS Essex (CVS-9). He graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1963.

Throughout his life, Doug held various roles, including working for Bliss Brothers dairy as a milk delivery driver, serving in the North Attleboro Fire Department as a firefighter and fire alarm specialist, owning North Attleboro Oil Company for a period alongside Mike Matros, and being an honorary employee of Out On A Limb llc, the company owned by his daughter Kerri and her husband Ronald. At the time of his passing, he was still employed by Cintas Corporation.

Doug was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in North Attleboro. He was actively involved in volunteering with firefighters for the annual North Attleboro Kids Day and was a member of the North Attleboro Kids Day Association. He also volunteered for the firetruck parade from its inception and was one of the founders of the Fire Alarm Institute LLC (FASI).

In addition to his beloved wife, Marilyn, Doug is survived by his son Glenn Corbett and wife Tammy of Ashuelot Village, New Hampshire, his daughter Kerri Corbett Goyette and her husband Ronald of Attleboro, and he became a stepfather to Lisa Burns Tercelli and husband David of Mashpee, Christopher Burns and wife Tracy of Attleboro, Shauna Burns Senechal and husband Eddie of North Attleboro, Richelle Burns Delfino and husband Ronald of Attleboro, and Jennifer Burns Cerrone and fiancé Alan Boothe of Wrentham. Doug also leaves behind 15 grandchildren living across the country and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred "Ted" Corbett and Gregory Corbett.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral service in celebration of Doug's life will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM in Grace Baptist Church, 1000 Oak Hill Avenue, Attleboro, with Pastor Jeffery Bailey officiating. United States Naval and North Attleboro Fire Department Honors will be accorded in recognition of Doug's service, and a reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Interment will be held privately at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum in North Attleboro.
