Carl Battista, Jr., 90, on September 16, 2023

Carl Battista, Jr., age 90, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeannette E. (Hall) Battista, on November 19, 2018.

He was born on January 3, 1933, in Providence, RI. He was the son of Carl and Antonetta (Guatieri) Battista.

Carl grew up in Providence and was a 1951 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School where he won a state championship in basketball. He was raised in the family-owned meat and grocery business. He entered the US Army in 1953 and served the Army until he was honorably discharged in 1956.

He worked as a supervisory food inspector for the USDA for 43 years, never missing a day of work, retiring in 1999. 

Carl moved to North Attleboro in 1959 where he and Jeannette raised their family. He was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s church. 

He cherished his family, especially enjoying family get-togethers. He was a car enthusiast, especially enjoying antique cars.  He restored a 1937 Nash Lafayette, which he proudly drove in the 4th of July parade. Carl was an excellent cook. His Italian grinders and eggplant parmesan were the best!

He is survived by his sister, Jeanne M. Cloutier of Greenville, R.I., 4 children: Stephen C. Battista (Mary) of Eden Prairie, MN, Paul J. Battista (Dawn) of North Attleboro, Carla J. Lynch (Brian) of Cumberland, R.I., and Julie A. Battista of Albion, R.I., 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 9:00 AM from the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in his honor by the Reverend David Costa at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish), 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, MA. Interment with full military honors will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, 163 Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
