Don J. Civitarese, 62, on September 4, 2023

NORTH ATTLEBORO – Don J. Civitarese, 62, of North Attleboro, formerly of Boston, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 4, 2023 at home.

Born in Boston, MA on March 10, 1961, he was the son of the late James Civitarese and Katharina (Gotha) Civitarese.

Don grew up in Boston and was a graduate of the English High School.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served his country for five years before being honorably discharged in 1982 with the rank of Engine Man Fireman Recruit.

He was self employed for many years as a painter before becoming disabled due to injury.

Don was an avid scuba diver, hunter, and biker. He always had a strong sense of adventure and discovery – hence his interest in scuba diving. In his early years, he would swim to the bottom of some lake or ocean and find necklaces or interesting items, giving some to his daughter. For a number of years, Don was a part of the Walpole Sportsmen’s Association in Massachusetts. So many wonderful memories were made here. In addition, he was an extremely skilled billiards player. He was always on a motorcycle, which is how he met his brothers. They became a bound unit and he was truly grateful for them. Family was always so important to him and he frequently took road trips to see his three granddaughters. The three of them became his pride and joy, along with his wonderful dog, Nina. He was a loving father, son, and grandfather and will be sorely missed by many.

He is survived by: his devoted daughters, Amber Mercer and Brielle Hedrick; and his cherished granddaughters, Bonnie, Kennedy, and Blaire.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, beginning with a time for visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated in his honor by the Reverend David Costa at 11:00 AM in Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish), 14 Park Street, North Attleboro. United States Naval honors will be accorded for Don in recognition of his military service outside of the church immediately following the Mass. Interment will be private.
