Francis A. Frey, Sr., age 79 of Plainville, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, July 8, 2023, peacefully in his home surrounded by his entire family.
He was born on February 14, 1944, in Montreal, Canada and raised by Helen (Knight) and Reinhold “Ronnie” Frey. At age 17, he moved from Canada to Somerville, Massachusetts to finish up his last year of high school and become a U.S. citizen.
Francis attended the priesthood at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts and earned a B.A. in Philosophy. Shortly thereafter he left the priesthood and worked in various positions within the banking industry over his career. He retired from Bank of America in 2006.
He was an avid and devoted member of St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville since 1973. He enjoyed reading the Sun Chronicle newspaper, watching Bruins hockey, and enjoyed watching the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Francis is survived by his wife Helen K. (Trayers) Frey of 53 years of loving marriage, his three children Francis A. Frey, Jr, April K. Frey, Joseph M. Frey, and daughter in-law Sarah D. Frey. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jason R. Frey (14), Riley K. Frey (12) and Kaitlyn A. Frey (9).
Francis was adopted at birth and was recently reunited with his biological family. He is survived by his siblings Jim Jutras, Marcel Jutras, Robert Jutras, Giles Jutras, and Jacquelin Jutras. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents Helen and Reinhold Frey, and sister Gina Meikle.
Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated in his honor by the Reverend Lambert Nieme on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Saint Martha’s Parish, 227 South Street, Plainville. Interment will follow at Plainville Cemetery, West Bacon Street, Plainville. The family requests that all those who are attending the funeral, please report directly to church that morning. There will be no public procession from the funeral home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Francis may be made to Saint Martha’s Parish.
