CW3 Donald S. McRae (US Army Retired), 75, on July 5, 2023

CW3 Donald S. McRae, Army Retired, 75, of East Falmouth and Seminole, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at home. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Digits) McRae for 47 years.

Born in Taunton, MA on April 12, 1948, he was a loving son of the late John A. McRae and Louise (Leary) McRae.

Don grew up in Taunton and was a 1966 graduate of Taunton High School.

A proud veteran of the Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq wars, he served his country proudly for 37 years, serving 4 years in the United States Navy and 33 years in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit. He retired as Commander Chief Warrant Officer 3 of Delta Company 249th Engineer Battalion.

In addition to his military career, he was employed by Eversource as a trouble man lineman for many years and also by Nova Scotia Power. He was a longtime union member of the IBEW Local 104.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, the Elks and volunteered with Home For Our Troops, Habitat For Humanity, and military funeral honor guard details. He was also a member of the MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) and TAVV (Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans Association).

Don loved traveling, boating, fishing, golf, trivia, history and reading. However, his favorite times were those spent in the company of his adoring family.

Besides his beloved wife, Joanne, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Erin McRae of East Falmouth and Colleen McRae and her husband Chris Sanders of Plymouth. He leaves his cherished grandchildren: Mia, Aubrey, Liam, Brody, Donnie, and Joleen. He was the dear brother of Kathleen Scully of Middleboro and Peg Martin of Taunton. He was the brother of the late John McRae.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his honor on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Saint Anthony’s Church (Saint Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family Parish), 167 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth. Entombment in the columbarium of the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow. Military honors will be accorded for Don in recognition of his service. Visitation has respectfully been omitted.
