Irene T. LaMothe, 97, on June 10, 2023

Irene Theresa (Achin) LaMothe, 97, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter A. LaMothe, Jr. who passed away on December 31, 1993.

Born on May 15, 1926 in North Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Isabelle (Precourt) Achin.

Irene was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro, and attended Saint Ann's Academy in Marlboro, MA. She was a communicant of Saint Mary's Church and a woman of great faith. When she could no longer attend church, she could be found watching daily mass on EWTN and saying her rosary adding intentions for anyone needing an extra prayer.

Irene worked at the former J & C Ferrera Company as an Accounts Receivable Clerk and continued her employment at Ocean Fresh Seafoods until her retirement.

Irene and her husband Walter spent many summers at their cottage on White Horse Beach in Plymouth, MA creating wonderful memories for their children and grandchildren. Irene loved her home and family and enjoyed being a homemaker. She later went to live with her daughter, Lynne and son-in-law Peter and was accompanied by her beloved cocker-poo, Cuddles. Irene and Walter also loved to attend their grandchildren's sporting events and were proud of their achievements.

In 2000, Irene lost her beloved daughter, Sharyn Giacoppo to Ocular Melanoma at the age of 41, and without hesitation stepped in to help raise her granddaughter.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to friends and family who were such a support to Irene enabling her to remain in her home with special thanks to Elizabeth Carlson and Barbara Burns. When she no longer could ambulate, she looked forward to family and friends visiting especially her lifelong friends. She also received exceptional care from Dr. Sharon Mullane and the VNA.

Irene is survived by her daughter Lynne M. Cullen and her husband Peter J. Cullen of North Attleboro. She was the mother of the late Sharyn M. Giacoppo and her husband Kenneth also of North Attleboro. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Brett P. Poirier and his wife Michelle; Katelyn Castonguay and her husband Michael; great grandchildren Ella Poirier, Brett Poirier, Jr., Jack Castonguay, Maxwell Castonguay, Matthew Castonguay and step-grandchildren Shannah Cullen, Richard Cullen and his wife Hanna; and step great-granddaughter, Riley Macomber. She was predeceased by her brothers Robert Achin, Albert Achin and Donald Achin Sr., her sisters Marie Christensen, Jeanne Paquin and her step-mother Jeanne Achin. She is survived by her remaining sister Lucille Desilets of North Attleboro, MA. Her step-brothers Gerald Achin and his wife Linda of Omaha Nebraska, Richard Achin and his wife Eleanor of Plainville, MA, and Raymond Achin and his wife Susan of Marshfield, MA. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be celebrated in her honor by the Reverend David Costa on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro. Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Towne Street, Attleboro Falls.

Visitation has respectfully been omitted.
