Robert F. “Bob” Tompkins (Ret. PPD), 81, on May 19, 2024

Robert F. “Bob” Tompkins (Retired PPD), 81, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Regan) Tompkins, to whom he was wed on October 10, 1972.

Born on November 6, 1942, in Brockton, MA, Bob was a loving son of the late William and Katherine (Vocci) Tompkins. Raised in Pawtucket, RI, he graduated from Pawtucket West High School. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, achieving the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge on August 23, 1968.

Bob’s dedication to service extended beyond his military career. He served his community as a Police Officer in the City of Pawtucket Police Department, retiring after thirty-one years on the force. An avid outdoorsman, Bob was a member of the Crystal Waters Anglers Club and the Rhody Fly Rodders. A staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, he was also a member of the National Rifle Association and G.O.A.L. (Gun Owners Action League).

In addition to his wife of fifty-two years, Judy, Bob is survived by his children: daughter Donna and son Robert, both of Texas; daughter Kathleen of Pawtucket; daughter Lisa of Rumford; and daughter Debra of Pawtucket. He leaves behind his cherished 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother Joe of Taunton and his sister Bernice of Kentucky. He was predeceased by his brother Tom of Arizona.

Visitation, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his honor on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Saint John Paul II Parish (formerly Saint Cecilia Church), 755 Central Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. United States Marine Corps and City of Pawtucket Police Department honors will be accorded in recognition of Bob’s service.

The family requests that all those who will be attending the funeral, please report directly to the church that morning.

Bob’s unwavering dedication to his family, country, and community will forever be remembered. May he rest in eternal peace, honored for his service and loved by all who knew him.
