NORTH ATTLEBORO – With deep sadness we are sharing that Matthew James Pechenik, 30, of North Attleboro, MA passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Born in Wellesley, MA on October 8, 1992, Matt was the loving son of Kathryn Moloney of North Attleboro and Mark Pechenik of South Berwick, Maine.  He is survived by his big and loving family including special Aunts, Uncles and cousins, and best friends, Chris Klein and Ryan Bizier.

From birth, Matt was curious, intelligent, funny, competitive and motivated to be the best person he could be.  He was a proud graduate of Bishop Feehan High School and Bryant University, and passed the CPA exam within months of graduation.  Matt was selected to participate in the Archway Investment Fund at Bryant, after which the Faculty Advisor stated that Matt came to Bryant, worked hard and claimed his education.

Matt was passionate about playing basketball and lacrosse, as well as his favorite teams the Celtics and Patriots and his favorite band, Brand New.  He loved to travel, especially to family reunions at the Moloney homestead in Ireland, as well as Long Beach, Stone Harbor, Texas, and a trip to England, Ireland, Scotland and Paris with his close friends.  He and his friends attended more concerts than can be counted.  Those who knew Matt knew he was into the details.  He created a winning Madden player and named him “Matt Money”.

A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be celebrated in his honor on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, with the Reverend Craig Pregana officiating. Visitation has respectfully been omitted and Matt will be laid to rest privately in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, North Attleboro.

Matt’s Mom and family wish to thank the many healthcare professionals who looked after Matt with compassion, especially those at Bellevue and Mount Sinai hospitals in New York City, along with his physician Dr. Scott Perman, the NAPD and NYPD and EMT workers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Matt’s memory can be made to The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, Family Program, P.O. Box 64348, St. Paul, MN 55164, or hazeldenbettyford.org., Donate, Matthew Pechenik, ID 0529062, comment: Family Program.

  • Oh Kathy, I am so sorry…I was travelling out of the country and could not attend services.  Please know that you have a soft place to land anytime, and I truly mean that.  My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.  May Matt be a peace.  All my love, Moe

  • Kathy,
Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time.  Please know your Covidien friends are thinking of you and sending hugs your way.

  • We will never forget those wonderful times with Matt and family.  The band practices in the basement and the blaring concerts at the Worcester Palladium, so many Indian Guide activities, camping on the harbor islands with Logan traffic overhead, and, of course, racing through the water park in Williamsburg.  He is missed.   The Sterns, Paul, Sue, Brandon, and Preston

  • Dear Kathy,

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for you upon learning this news. I remember your pregnancy and how Matt was born in October, like Michelle, and sharing their firsts. Please know that I will be praying for you that God gives you the strength to face the worst of life’s tragedies.

  • Kathy and family,
I am so sorry to hear this news about the passing of your dear Matt.  I remember him as a young boy, a joy.
My heart is heavy as you bear this sorrow and deep loss. May his memory remain a blessing now and forever more. God bless you.

  • I am heartbroken from the news about Matt’s passing. I enjoyed having Matt as a team member this past two months. Such a bright, motivated, kind professional, ready to do really well in the business world. He made so much impact during the short period we worked together. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family.

  • Deepest sympathies to the family of Matt. Mark, of course I remember you from our newspaper years together in Massachsusetts. I could niot be more sorry for what is an unimaginably sad loss.
