Margaret Hjerpe 01/17/2020

Margaret (Peg) Hjerpe gently and peacefully passed into the heavens from her home on Friday, Jan. 17th at 3:25 pm.

The sun shined magnificently through the windows just as Peg took her last breath with her son David and daughter Lisa holding her hands.

Peg was three months into her 80th year. She grew up in Plymouth, MA before her family moved to East Bridgewater, MA where she was educated, graduating from EBHS in 1958. Peg was the widow of Richard A. Hjerpe whom she was married to for 52 years before he passed away in Sept. 2014.

Peg married Richard in August of 1961 and they raised three children (Karen, David, Lisa) at their home in N Attleboro, MA.

During this time Peg continued her education receiving a Master’s degree in Education. She began her career teaching Special Education in Mansfield, MA for several years before transferring to East Greenwich, RI where she taught both Special Ed and 2nd & 3rd graders for almost 30 years.

Peg was deeply loved and highly regarded by all her students and parents, as well as her friends and peers.

Her spirit will forever live on in all the young hearts she touched, molded and healed.

Peg Hjerpe was a genuinely kind soul who taught all her thousands of children about caring, sharing and loving on a daily basis.

Upon retiring Peg and Richard continued their dream of traveling the countryside. They often visited their children while creating new adventures and lasting memories. As Peg wished and requested no wake or funeral is planned, only a peaceful Spring burial of her ashes next to her husband Richard. Sweet condolences are welcome at Sperry-McHoul.com

Arrangements entrusted to Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.

  • To Karen, I just saw your picture in our yearbook (1980 jr year ) this morning as I perused many pics of the activities we all enjoyed. I can’t believe it’s been 40 years… and now to see the announcement of your dear mom’s passing.  I’m so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Kathy

  • My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Peggy’s children. I had the pleasure of knowing her only a short time. She was a true heart.
