John S. Hickman 01/10/2021

North Attleboro – John S. Hickman, 82, of North Attleboro passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Morton Hospital in Taunton.  He was the husband of Anne (Derose) Hickman. 

Born in Orange, NJ on September 20, 1938, he was the son of the late Darold and Edith (Keelen) Hickman. 

John was a resident of North Attleboro since 1940.  He worked as a Dispatcher, Fire Alarm Operator for the North Attleboro Fire Department for 27 years before his retirement in 2001.

 John was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro and a past member of the North Attleboro Historical Commission.  His hobbies included gardening and coin collecting. John also enjoyed collecting postcards of the North Attleboro area.

 In addition to his wife, Anne, John is survived by his sons John Hickman, Jr. of Maine; Joel Hickman of Florida; Robert Hickman of Attleboro; and Michael Hickman of North Attleboro; his sister:  Mary Patricia Newbert of Warwick, RI and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves his nephews and nieces and several cousins.

 He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey S. Hickman and his brother-in-law Gordon Newbert. 

With strict adherence to Covid-19 precautions including face masks and social distancing relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation for John on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro form 5 to 7 p.m.

 In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name may be made to the NA Firefighter’s Kids Day Association, P.O. Box 3215, North Attleboro, MA 02761

  • Mr Hickman, you were such a good man. I really appreciated your positive attitude and contagious smile. I don’t know how you did it with all of us kids acting up all the time. Thank you for your support as I was growing up and throughout my military service.
