  • I am very sorry to hear about John’s passing. He was the best High School Sports historian for Hingham and the South Shore. He always had a great sense of humor anytime I saw him at Hingham High Football Games and at various Places around Hingham, Hull and the South Shore. Please accept my sincere condolences and sympathies. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Take care and god bless you all.

  • Great tribute for a life well lived.  He obviously influenced his son and I’m sure his daughter too. Sorry for your loss.  You have lost a great role model and dad.  Hold onto those great memories and imitate his best traits. That will be a great honor to him

  • The cross country and track teams at Bishop Feehan were blessed to have Mr. Atwood on our sidelines: “His words of encouragement, signature pipe, and Tam-‘o-Shanter Irish cap is etched in the memory of many athletes at these meets to this day.”

Truly a great and unforgettable man.

  • John Atwood was one in a million. When my son was diagnosed with significant special needs, John was not only a guiding support for his needs, but for mine as well. He gave me strength & positivity when I didn’t know I had it. He also reveled in every high school game my other children played in, most especially, the 2008 Superbowl run of the NHS football team. I am saddened to hear of his passing, but grateful that me and my family were lucky to know such a wonderful man. May his memory be eternal!

  • I worked for John for many years in Norton. He was a kind, supportive man who was always positive in his message. He always had a smile and was willing to make time for people. John leaves quite a legacy here in Norton…may he rest in peace.

  • John was a special man. His compassion for his students was evident to me whenever we discussed the educational needs they had. His love for Frances, his children and grandchildren was always so evident. He is now back with Frances, the love of his life. Rest in peace John.

  • What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man by his loving son. Thoughts and prayers are sent your way. K. Lema
