R. Scott Erickson, 64, on May 5, 2023

PLAINVILLE - R. Scott Erickson, 64, of Plainville passed away on May 5, 2023 at Hope Health and Hospice in Providence, RI after a courageous battle with lung cancer. 

Born in Attleboro on September 23, 1958, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Barbara E. (Fowler) Erickson. 

Scott grew up in North Attleboro and was a 1976 graduate of North Attleboro High School. 

He owned and operated his own Auto Body Shop, Custom Revival, from 1976 to 1982. He was a call firefighter for the town of North Attleboro from 1976 to 1979 when he became a full-time firefighter with the North Attleboro Fire Department. He moved up the ranks from Lieutenant to Captain and then to Deputy Chief. While on the NAFD, he was very involved with the SAFE program and the NA Firefighter’s Kids Day Association. In 1998 he began a career with the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, where he was a Senior Field Advisor, Logistics Management Directorate until his passing. It is with FEMA where he traveled all over the country to aid with the devastations brought on by natural disasters and the global pandemic. Early on, he spent many months at Ground Zero as a Logistics Chief during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. 

When he wasn’t traveling for work, he enjoyed traveling with his children visiting places such as Disney Land, Nashville, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Lake Michigan and the Space Needle. Scott also loved antiquing, collecting fire memorabilia and renovating homes which included helping his children with projects in their homes. He was a Patriot’s fan and enjoyed camping with his friends and family especially the annual Labor Day weekend trip. Scott enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Scott is survived by his 4 children: Jarred Erickson and his wife Hannah of North Attleboro; Kaleigh Erickson of North Attleboro; Shayna Erickson and Matt Wise of North Attleboro; Ronelle Erickson-Simonelli and her husband Steve of Plainville. His 4 grandchildren: Noelle, Jameson, Walker and Gavin. His siblings: Kenneth and Lori Erickson of Gilford, NH; Kimberly and Rick Morin of North Attleboro; Gary Erickson of North Attleboro; Julie Erickson and Andy Grant of Attleboro; the mother of his children, Lori Erickson of Plainville; and longtime companion Sandy Gross of Cumberland, as well as aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Visitation, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held in the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4pm to 7 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral Home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 11 a.m.  Burial will be held at a later date.
