William H. "Bill" Shuman, III, 87, on February 16, 2023

NORTH ATTLEBORO – William H. “Bill” Shuman, III, 87, a lifelong resident of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Loraine F. (Carpeno) Shuman of North Attleboro.

Born on December 7, 1935 in North Attleboro, MA, he was the loving son of the late William H. Shuman, Jr. and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Shuman.

Bill grew up in North Attleboro and was a graduate of North Attleboro High School. He also attended Vesper George Art School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.

A proud veteran of the Korean War era, he served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from active duty on October 1, 1957 with the rank of Private First Class. He would continue to serve in the United States Army Reserves for another 5 years, completing his service on September 30, 1962.

He worked for many years as an industrial photographer for the Foxboro Company.

Bill was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking, climbing, and was particularly fond of skiing. He also loved cabinet making and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, Loraine, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Daniel Carpeno of Foxboro.

He was the brother of the late Catherine Shuman.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 11 AM in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro with the Reverend Bernard Lavin officiating. Interment with United States Army honors will follow the service in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA. Relatives and friends are most warmly invited to attend.
