Robert J. Achin, 87, on November 21, 2022

NORTH ATTLEBORO – Robert J. Achin, 87, a longtime resident of North Attleboro passed away Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater.  He was husband of the late Sandra J. (Lees) Achin.

Born July 28, 1935 in North Attleboro, he was a son of the late Leo Sr. and Louise (Ringuette) Achin.

Robert spent most of his life in North Attleboro and was a graduate of Sacred Heart elementary school school in 1949.  He was a 1953 graduate of North Attleboro High School, where he played basketball and football, participated on student council and in the glee club. He was a self- professed ‘Townee’ and could often be found cheering on the Red Rocketeers football team. Robert graduated from Northeastern University in 1958 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering.

Robert was employed by Key Tech in East Providence, RI and the Foxboro Co in Foxboro for many years. 

He moved to Michigan for six years, and helped open the Texas Instruments plant in 1966.  He returned to North Attleboro where he continued to work for Texas Instruments in Attleboro until his retirement in 1997 after 39 years of employment at TI.

Robert served in the U.S. Army Core of Engineers and was commissioned to 2nd Lt. in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  His active duty was served at Fort Belvoir and Fort Devens in Massachusetts.  The balance of his service time was done in various Army Reserve units in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Michigan.

He served on the school board in Central Lake, Michigan and was also a member and chairman of the North Attleboro Personnel Board.

Robert enjoyed all sports, but particularly football and the New England Patriots.

He is survived by two sons: David Achin and his partner Linda of Central Falls, RI and Douglas Achin and wife Gina of Cohasset; his daughter: Joanne Gray and her partner Louis of Medway; grandchildren: Candace Shepard and her husband Keith, Samantha Gray-Ross and her husband Phil, Kimberlee Gray, Dakota Achin, Amanda Achin and Amber Achin,  and great-grandchildren: Nelson and Aubrey Shepard, Roslyn Gray and Maeve Ross.

He was brother of  Leo J. Achin and the late Norman Achin.

Robert’s family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater for the wonderful care, compassion and kindness they showed Bob over the past three years.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church of Transfiguration of the Lord Parish, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro.  Burial to be held privately.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 2 from 4-7 p.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
