Jeanne M. Small, 93 on May 17, 2022

NORTH ATTLEBORO – Jeanne M. Small, 93, of North Attleboro passed into eternity on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Philip Hulitar Hospice House in Providence, RI.

She was the loving wife of the late Stephen F. Small for 55 years until his passing in 2005.

Born August 28, 1928 in Boston, she was a daughter of the late John Chester and Alice E. (Murphy) Morash.

Jeanne grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and graduated from St. Matthew’s School in 1942.  She graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls in 1946 and at age 47 entered nursing school at the City of Boston LPN program.  In 1977 she earned an associate degree from Labore’ College and later attended Northeastern University, working part-time in their BSN program.

Before going to nursing school, Jeanne worked various jobs in the telecommunications industry including as an AT&T teletype operator from 1946-1951 in Boston, the Department of Public works as a telephone operator and as a switchboard operator at Turner Construction from 1965 until 1973.

Once licensed as an LPN, she worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, the Neponset Health Center from 1975 until 1988 first as an LPN and later as an RN.

Jeanne was the elementary school nurse at Tucker Elementary School in Milton from 1988-1993 and also worked part-time at the Nobili Allergy Clinic and Quincy schools. 

She moved to North Attleboro in 2001 where she was an active communicant at St. Mary’s Church.

Jeanne was part of the St. Mary’s Women’s Guild, a Bible study group, the St. Mary’s choir, an Eucharistic minister, part of the bereavement ministry, and lector.  She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion Auxiliary. 

She was devoted to her Catholic faith and when she lived in the Boston area volunteered at South Shore Hospital where she brought the Holy Eucharist to patients and parishoners of St. Claire’s church.

Jeanne leaves behind 3 children: Michael Small and wife Mary of Bonita Springs, FL, Mark Small and wife Noelle of St. Augustine, FL and Jeane Belsky and husband Andrew of Attleboro;

7 grandchildren: Kerri Morrissey, Michelle Geissler, Jamie Small, Andrew Belsky, Christine Belsky, Julianne Belsky and Thomas Suggs; and 5 great-granchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 4-7 p.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street.

A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, May 23 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish, St. Mary’s Church, at 10 a.m.  Burial will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
