Arlene (Mullaney) Hickey, a longtime resident of North Attleboro, MA, died peacefully on February 2, 2022 at the age of 90 in the presence of loved ones.
After graduating business school, she worked as a bookkeeper at L.G. Balfour Company. On March 31, 1951, she married William Hickey, a general contractor and her high school sweetheart. Together they co-owned the W. Hickey Construction Company and joyfully raised seven children.
Arlene is survived by her children Cheryl (Milot), James Hickey, Edward Hickey, Robert Hickey, and Kathleen (Decker); sister Rebecca (Mullaney) Paradis; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and friends. She is predeceased by her husband William Hickey, children Karen Hickey and William Hickey, and sister Patricia Van Den Bergh. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Karen (Tremblay) Hickey.
Arlene was born in Attleborough, MA on September 12, 1931 to the late Leona (Booth) Mullaney and William Mullaney.
Arlene was a devoted mother and avid reader. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing children’s clothes, and exploring beaches. She visited numerous lighthouses from Cape Cod to Maine, and especially loved her cabin retreat on Hermit Island. She enjoyed travelling, taking many trips with her husband and family. She loved animals, especially her dog Tara, and volunteered at the Pawtucket Animal Shelter. A kind, generous woman, she delighted in spending time with her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by friends and family, and all who knew her.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 10 at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls. Reverend Pamela Corcoran will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Attleboro Animal Shelter, 43 South Washington Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
