Sandra "Sandy" J. (Avery) Horan, 82, on January 23, 2022

Sandra "Sandy" J. (Avery) Horan of Wrentham, a former Plainville resident for most of her life, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022.
She was born on May 1, 1939, in Plainville, to the late Clarence P. and Elsie (Read) Avery.

Sandy was a member of the last graduating class from Plainville High School in 1956 and then went on to graduate from Pondville School of Nursing.

For many years she worked at the former Wrentham State School and then in private nursing care.   After she had retired fromnursing, she worked alongside her brother Neal at the Plainville Cemetery.  Even after she no longer worked there, Sandy still took great pride in maintaining immaculate gravesites for her family.

She had a passion for gardening and had a fantastic green thumb. The subjects of lighthouses, birds, horses, and trains were of great interest to her.  Sandy and her brother had an amazingly detailed train set display that took up an entire room in their childhood home.

Beyond the train display, she was crafty in general and took great pleasure in decorative projects like wreaths and also crocheting.  Sandy also loved New Hampshire and frequently visited there with her late husband, Joseph.

Country music also had a special place in her heart and the sounds of it could be heard from her apartment daily.

Sandy was predeceased by her husband Joseph P. Horan, sons David E. Card and Timothy M. Horan, sisters Shirley Choquette and Arlene Cooper, and brother Neal Avery.  She is survived by her granddaughter Jennifer Haggerty and her husband Keith of Norton, her sister Gail Pratt of Wrentham, and many nephews and a niece.

At her request, services will be private.
