Lena T. Marcil, 93 on January 1, 2022

ATTLEBORO – Lena T. Marcil, 93, of Christopher Heights in Attleboro passed away Saturday,

January 1, 2022 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard H. Marcil.

Born June 3, 1928 in North Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary

(Ringuette) Ouellette.

Lena grew up in North Attleboro and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Elementary School. She at

age 26 she moved to Plainfield, NJ and then spent 34 years in Endwell, NY before moving back

to North Attleboro in 1999.

She was a devoted homemaker and raised seven children, including 2 special-needs daughters.

While living in North Attleboro, she was a devoted communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

She loved knitting, crocheting and altering. When she was 10 years old, Lena was given a sewing machine by her aunt and sewing became a lifelong passion.  She began a mending program for special needs children which she ran for 16 years in New York. The project began by mending used clothing for the needy by herself and grew to 13 sewing machines and dozens of volunteers and was always close to her heart. At one point they mended for 450 residents in various homes.

She was predeceased by Laura J Marcil and Robert M Marcil.  She is survived by five children: Richard P Marcil of Waltham, MA, Paulette M Marcil of Sidney, NY, Louise A Wiggins of Venice, FL, Dianne H Marcil of Salina, KS, Ronald F Marcil of Taylor, TX, Godson Mark Fisher of Attleboro, MA, 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her generation is was predeceased by all her siblings, Ovila Ouellette, Edmond Ouellette, Roland Ouellette, Albert Ouellette, Francis Ouellette, Edna Fisher, Anita Peao, Bertha Slowey, Alice Surprenant, Lillian Driscoll, Jeanne Sanford, Lucille Quaranta. 

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated after visitation at Transfiguration of the Lord Parish at St. Mary’s Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
