Sheila A. Hurder, 68, on December 23, 2021

Sheila A. Hurder

September 3, 1953 - December 23, 2021 (68 years)

Born in Needham, MA to Antonio (Tony) Porreca and Olga Porreca, Sheila was the youngest of 4 children. She attended Needham High School until 1968 when her family moved to Norfolk, MA. Sheila was a softball pitcher at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA and pitched a mean fast ball. She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated KPHS with high honors in 1972. Sheila married her high school sweetheart, David A. Hurder, in 1973.

Sheila worked as a secretary after graduating high school and decided to further her education at Mount Ida University in Newton, MA where she became a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) in 1992. While in school, Sheila worked as a dental assistant for Dr. David Ferrin, DDS in Sharon, MA. In 1992 Sheila became an orthodontist assistant in Needham, MA working with Dr. Alex Bejian, DMD until 2005. She wanted a career change and started working at Riverview School in Sandwich, MA helping students with disabilities prepare for college and living on their own. She really enjoyed helping these young men and women but it became mentally and physically exhausting. Sheila then decided to do something she loved… baking. She worked at a local grocery store, Market Basket, in the bakery department until she and her husband, Dave, decided to retire and move to Florida in 2017.

Sheila and Dave moved to Rotonda West, Florida where they enjoyed warmer weather, the beach, biking and boating. Sheila loved getting together with friends and neighbors and was a part of a progressive dinner club. She really enjoyed cooking, baking, hosting card game nights and was learning the game of pickleball.

Sheila was the most giving person one could imagine; her personality and infectious smile could light up any room.  Family was everything to Sheila and she enjoyed spending quality time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Antonio (Tony) Porreca; mother, Olga Porreca; sister, Patricia Porreca; as well as beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
