Grace Ruth Hurd, 73, on September 19, 2021

Grace Ruth Hurd, 73, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI after a brief battle with MDS Leukemia. She was the beloved wife of Robert G. “Bob” Hurd.

Born on September 6, 1948 in Framingham, MA, she was a loving daughter of the late Edward and Mary E. (Corbett) Johansen.

Grace grew up in Franklin, MA and was a resident of North Attleboro for the last 56 years.

She was employed by the L.G. Balfour Company, formerly of Attleboro, in the annealing room for 12 years until her retirement.

Grace was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She and Bob loved doing jigsaw puzzles online together and also had an evening tradition of competing against each other while watching Jeopardy.

In addition to her greatest joy, time spent in the company of her adoring family and friends, she loved flowers, traveling, and animals. She also enjoyed watching bull riding, always rooting for the bull.

When you ask family and friends about Grace, these are the words they use to describe her:

Honest, Dedicated, Generous, Loving, Warm, Helpful, Kind and Caring. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need whether a family member, friend, or perfect stranger. Grace will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!

 

Besides her husband of 57 years, Bob, she is survived by her devoted children: George R. Hurd, Jr., Ruth A. Hurd, Debra J. Cooper and her husband John “Chip” Cooper, Jr., and David B. Hurd all of North Attleboro. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kayla M. Hurd, Sarah L. Cooper, and Teyla M. Cooper all of North Attleboro. She was the dear sister of Mary Ellen Dangelo and her husband Donald of Millville, MA, and Edward “Butch” Johansen and his wife Jeannine of Woonsocket, RI. She was the loving aunt of Ann M. Hurd of North Attleboro, Mary Lee Johansen-Plant of West Warwick, RI, Angela Ingram and her husband Tracy of

Jackson, TN, Tina George and her husband Steven of Woonsocket, RI, Richard E. Hurd and his wife Lisa of Plainville, Eric C. Dangelo of Uxbridge, Jason M. Dangelo and his wife Maureen of Plainville, Richard H. Bernier, Jr. and his wife Mandel of Woonsocket, RI, Edward Johansen and his wife Kelli of Taunton, and Anthony Johansen and his husband Houston Smith of Kingsland, GA. She was the sister-in-law of Linda Hurd of Plainville and the best friend of Karen Hill and her husband Ray of Plainville.

She also leaves numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Donna L. Yoder, her brother-in-laws, Roy E. Hurd and Alan R. Hurd, and her uncle, Edward “Sonny” Corbett.

Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11 AM in Grace Episcopal Church, 104 North Washington Street, North Attleboro.

The church requests the wearing of masks by all those present for the service.

Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Grace’s name may be made to the North Attleboro Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.
