Carolyn J. Bassett on June 12, 2021

 

NORTH ATTLEBORO – Carolyn J. Bassett, 86, of Sumner Street passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021 at home surrounded by her devoted family. She was the loving wife of Donald Bassett for the past 66 years. 

Born September 3, 1934 in Plainville, she was a daughter of the late Clifford A. and Margaret M. (Podel) Cooper. 

Carolyn lived in Plainville until moving to North Attleboro in 1944.

For 20 years, she and her husband Donald co-owned Bassett’s Bakery, located in downtown North Attleboro. She also worked as an assistant supervisor at Plainville Stock Company for many years. 

She was a wonderful mother who loved hanging out with her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, ladybugs, going for rides in the car and telling stories about the “good old days”.

She was the mother of the late Margaret M. Bailey, Clifford Bassett and wife Brenda of North Attleboro and Theresa Bassett-Bezak of North Attleboro; Sister of Richard E. Cooper of Florida and predeceased by siblings Harry, Charlie, Dot, Cliff, Jack, David, baby Peggy and Harvey Cooper. 

She’s also survived by 7 grandchildren: Heather, Nichole, Neil, Erik, Jonathan, Devan and Taylor as well as 12 great-grandchildren, who were all very precious to her.

 A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A collation will follow at the North Attleboro Elk’s Lodge on Bullfinch Street. Burial will be held privately at Plainville Cemetery.
