Plainville- Rosalthie “Rosie” Sorrento,73, a lifelong resident of Plainville, died peacefully Friday, February 5, 2021, after a period of declining health, at the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, with her family by her side.
Born in Attleboro, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elna (Falk) Fawcett. Rosie was educated in Plainville schools and was a graduate of King Philip High School in 1965.
She was the wife of the late Francis (Frank) C. Sorrento for 38 years until his death in 2011.
She is survived by three children: Tyrene Brundrett and husband Jim of Milford, MA, Myra Bernard of Griswold, CT, and Frank Sorrento and wife Laura of Attleboro, MA. She is survived by her sister, Grace Simmons of Plainville, MA and brother Robert Fawcett and wife Peggy of Sandwich, MA.
Rosie’s grandchildren were the light of her life: Timothy Brundrett, Arianne Brundrett, Eric Bernard, Courtney (Bernard) Molloy and husband Cameron, Emma Sorrento, Elijah Sorrento and great-grandson Robin Molloy. She had four step-grandchildren: Chris Brundrett and wife Cindy, Samantha Lawson and husband John, Marlena Brady and husband Patrick, and Jeannette Chandler. And 11 step-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother-in-law’s: Chris Sorrento and wife Connie, Chuck Sorrento and wife Christine and “sister-in-law” Diana (Dee) O’Malley and husband Ed. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who loved her.
Rosie worked for 28 years as the van driver for the Town of Plainville Senior Center. In the past, she drove nursery school children for Lorilin Nursery School and Preschool Adventures and owned a business driving special needs children.
Rosie was a proud Girl Scout and was a member through Senior Scout badges. She was a leader of the Brownies, Juniors and Cadets and a Boy Scout Den Mother for Pack 46 and Troop 132 Committee leader. For many years, she was active in Plainville with the Jaycees and a member of the Housing Authority. Rosie was a devoted member of the Plainville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Rosie was Plainville’s Citizen of the Year in 1982. This special tribute was a testament to her kindness, generosity and outgoing personality.
Rosie was proud of her Irish and Swedish heritage and belonged to T.I.A.R.A and S.A.R.A ancestry groups. She enjoyed researching genealogy for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. She went to Ireland, Bermuda and Canada, to name a few. Rosie, along with her sister, Grace, would sight-see the country visiting lighthouses and state parks along the way.
Rosie enjoyed knitting and crocheting and gave many items to family, friends and the Plainville Church Fair. She will forever be remembered for her warm smile, infectious laughter and colorful handmade hats!
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, her family will have a private burial at the Plainville Cemetery in the spring. Her family plans to have a Memorial Service this summer when it will be safe to be together.
