DAVID WELD RICKARD

 

North Attleboro: David the son of Robert Hazard Rickard and Ruth Grant Wheeler Rickard was born on February 7th 1937 in Milford, MA. He went home to be with the LORD on April 22, 2020. He lived in North Attleboro from 1942 to 2020.

 

He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, an Eagle Scout, received God and Country Award, and was a Scout leader. He attended North Attleboro High School and was on the baseball team, and graduated in 1954.

 

He worked at Metals and Controls in Attleboro, MA where he met the love of his life Andrea Gail Collins from Attleboro, MA and was married on December 23, 1956.

 

He attended North Eastern University and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, graduating in 1959. He was also an R.O.T.C. cadet for 5 years.

 

Upon graduation he joined the United States Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant where his active duty was in Georgia and later in New Jersey where he was joined by his wife and 3 of his children. His 4th child arrived in 1962.

 

Upon completion of the tour of duty in the Army, He and his family returned to North Attleboro, MA when he began his career at the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro, MA in 1960. His career spanned 37 years in various positions and he retired in 1997 as the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources. His many accomplishments helped build The Foxboro Co. into one of the largest employers in New England.

 

In addition, he was very active in his community for many years. Dave joined the Jaycees and worked with a group of civil-minded individuals to work for the betterment of their community. He was elected President of the Jaycees where among some of his accomplishments he ran the North Attleboro Day celebrations which included games, parades, block parties, and battle of the bands. He was also the Chairman for organizing the Bicentennial Parade in 1976. Along with many other charitable events, Dave was instrumental in the development, planning, and fund raising to build the Sun Rise Hill ski area, later named the Ed Sheehy ski area at WW1 Memorial Park. He also served as a Selectman in North Attleboro, was Chairman of the Board of Selectman in the final year of his 3-year term, and he served on the School Committee. Dave was also the Chairman of the Recreation Department and President of the Jr. Football League, where with his wife Andrea, they helped raise funds for the league while working at the concessions stands where his wife Andrea was known as “the hot dog lady.”

 

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro and became Superintendent of the Sunday school. He later joined Grace Bible Church in Somerset, MA and served as Treasurer and was a member of the Board of Directors. He then joined Grace Fellowship Church in Plainville, MA, where his son James is the Pastor, and served in many capacities.

 

Dave embodied love, integrity, charity, hard work, honesty, and faith in God. He and his wife often offered a home or meal to anyone who needed one. He was truly a great man.

 

He enjoyed softball, camping, cookouts, golfing, skiing, water sports, and all Boston/New England sports. His favorite times were spent with family and friends at his 3-season home in Onset, MA and other vacations on lakes in NH, Maine, and Vermont where his parents lived for a time.

 

During Dave’s lifetime, he made so many contributions to God’s church, country, family, and friends and was truly an amazing man. We were very blessed to have had him in our lives.

 

David is survived by his wife Andrea of 63 years, 4 children, Lynda Morrison and husband Kevin of Norfolk, MA, Stephen Rickard and wife Terrie of North Attleboro, MA, Susan Cronin and husband Barry of North Attleboro, MA, James Rickard and wife Elizabeth of North Attleboro, MA, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Brothers: Jonathan of Deep River, CT, Peter of Rochester, MA, and Sister: Jennifer of Rochester, MA.
