NORTH ATTLEBORO – Beatrice O. Leary, 94, of North Attleboro passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at LifeCare Center of Attleboro surrounded by her devoted family.  She was the beloved wife of Francis Leary, Sr. for 47 years until his death in 1987.

Born September 19, 1924 in Pawtucket, RI, she was a daughter of the late S. Peter and Josephine (Lamoreux) Matthieu.

Bea grew up in Pawtucket and was a graduate of Pawtucket East High School.  Be was a sister to the now deceased Raymond Matthieu, Anna Teklinsky and George Matthieu.  After marrying her husband, Francis, she moved to North Attleboro where she resided for 78 years.

Bea was employed by the North Attleboro School Department for 33 years as a manager, cafeteria supervisor and then food services director, before retiring in 1992.

Bea was a fantastic cook, loved entertaining and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  Bea nurtured many long-lasting friendships. 

She enjoyed listening to music, shopping, dancing, bicycle riding, swimming, walking and in her later years playing golf.

Bea cherished time spent wintering at her home in Charlotte Harbor, FL and spending summers at her lake home on Lake Dunemore, Vermont.  Bea led a very active life.

She was a woman of great faith and devotion and was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in North Attleboro.  Bea was formerly a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Catholic Women’s Guild.  In the 1950’s she was president of the Girl Scouts Association of North Attleboro.  She was also a member of the Massachusetts Food Services Association.

Bea is survived by her five children: David Leary and wife Celeste of North Attleboro, Francis Leary, Jr. of North Attleboro, Judy Leary Colvin and husband James O. Colvin of North Attleboro, Donna B. Swinington of Grand View Farm, Leicester, VT, and Nancy Keith of Brandon, VT and is also survived by her sister, Corinne Flannagan of Pawtucket, RI;  Also five grandchildren: Kathleen Ramsay of Leicester, VT, Elizabeth Ripley of Grand View Farm, Leicester, VT, Deborah Keith of Brandon, VT, Michael Keith of Bristol, VT and Jay Francis Leary of East Greenwich, RI;

To her grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren she was affectionately known as “Momer”.

As the matriarch of the family, Bea modeled compassion, kindness, strength, a resolute work ethic and impeccable attention to detail.  She left a great legacy for all those whose lives she touched.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 11 from 5-8 p.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.  A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, January 12 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
