SMITHFIELD, RI – Joan Elizabeth Vine, 91, a longtime resident of Plainville passed away Thursday evening, November 29, 2018 at Heritage Hills in Smithfield with her beloved family by her side. She was the wife of the late Walter “Red” Vine for over 60 years.
Born May 2, 1927 in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Lillian (Anderson) Burke.
Joan graduated from Franklin High School and later Framingham State College with a degree in home economics.
She worked as a 2nd grade teacher at the Dominican Academy in Plainville for many years.
Joan’s passion was sewing and crafts and had a business called Joan’s Crafts in Attleboro for many years.
She is survived by her five children: Patricia Vine of Providence, RI, Thomas Vine and wife Lori of Plainville, James Vine and wife Deborah of Attleboro, William Vine and wife Donna of North Attleboro and John Vine and wife Diana of Mansfield; a brother, Robert Burke of Norfolk;
11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was sister of the late William J. “Sonny” Burke, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martha Parish, 227 South Street (Route 1a), Plainville after visitation at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Plainville Cemetery.
