PLAINVILLE – Catherine Vito, 76, a longtime resident of Plainville peacefully left this world on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Franklin Skilled Nursing Center. She was the beloved wife of Nicholas Vito, Jr. for 49 years before his death in 2017.
Born January 7, 1942 in Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late James and Nora (Dolan) Horan.
Catherine grew up in North Attleboro and graduated from North Attleboro High School, where she was honored as Most Athletic Female of the Class of 1960, excelling in basketball.
She later went on to nursing school and spent her younger working years as an RN at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston.
Catherine, known as “Kay” to her dear friends and family, was a longtime communicant at St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville where she was a member of the Women’s Guild and on the Pastoral Council for many years.
Kay left nursing to start a family of her own. She became an in-home daycare provider, so she could also care for her own children. She enjoyed spending time at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and could always be found at the North Attleboro High School football games at Community Field on Friday nights.
Kay is survived by her loving children: Anthony Vito of North Attleboro, Nicholas Vito III and his wife Jennifer of West Warwick, RI and Cheryl Vito of North Attleboro;
And three grandchildren: Amelia and Marcus Vito and Taylor Russell. She was predeceased by several siblings.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 5 from 5-8 p.m. at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, October 6 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Martha Parish, 227 South Street (Route 1A), Plainville at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
