Daniel R. Smallidge, 29, on April 7, 2024

Daniel Riley Smallidge, 29, of Newton, MA, formerly a longtime resident of Sandwich, MA, passed away unexpectedly at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Born in Hyannis, MA on June 18, 1994, he was the loving son of Donald B. and Rhoda L. (Cook) Smallidge.

Dan had a contagious smile. He went through life never missing an opportunity to laugh. Dan’s pure heart and kindness was apparent to every person he met. Dan’s greatest love in life was music, closely rivaled by all things horror. Dan never missed an opportunity to see the bands he admired; Slipknot, Korn, Twiztid, Butcher Babies, Tech N9ne, MGK and Caskey- a few of many. Dan was happiest when at a concert. Anyone who knew Dan, knew he always had his headphones in.

Along with his passion for horror, Dan also loved attending Scaracon, Comic Con and Silver Scream Con. During his childhood, Dan enjoyed playing hockey, expressing himself through art and spending time with friends at the skatepark. In his adult life, Dan found joy in drawing and painting. He adored animals, especially his cat, Mona. He cherished his time with his nephew, Brycen and the time he spent with family and his many friends.

Daniel attended Forestdale Elementary. He graduated from Sandwich High School in 2013 while working at Otis AirForce Base. Dan went on to graduate with his bachelor’s degree from New England Institute of Art, majoring in Audio Production and Live Sound. Following graduation, Dan took great pride in working at Brighton Music Hall and Paradise Rock Club.

Daniel is survived by his mother and father, Rhoda and Donald Smallidge; his sister Ashley Smallidge; his nephew Brycen Pola and his grandmother Sandra Cook. His aunt Laurie Cook Bedard; Uncle Patrick Cook and wife, Collette Cook; Uncle Ricky Cook and husband, Scott Caprio; Aunt Sue Cole and husband, Jim Cole; Uncle Peter Smallidge and wife Elizabeth Smallidge. His many cousins, Ryan and Aaron Bedard; Brennan and Ryan Cook; Keton and Ciara Feliciano; Christopher and Jennifer Cole; Amelia, Becky and Sam Smallidge; Judy and Jim Hanlon; Jill Frey; John and Jeffrey Instasi; as well as Debbie, Mary and Katelynn Connolly. The friends that became part of Dan’s family included Haley Ries, Myles Ferrick, Alyson and Tracy Sullivan and Ryan Kelly.

Daniel was predeceased by his grandfather, Fredrick Cook (Poppy); and grandparents, David and Janet Smallidge.

Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend Daniel’s funeral on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, beginning with a time for visitation from 12:00 to 1:30 PM in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A service will be held in the funeral home at the conclusion of the visitation at 1:30 PM with the Reverend Pamela Corcoran officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, 565 Mount Hope Street, Attleboro Falls.

A Celebration of Life, open to all friends and family will be announced at a later date.

  • This doesn’t for real. Dan and I started talking through the horror community as well as the music community and became friends instantly. We finally met at a concert in Worcester after talking about everything under the moon for awhile. I remember texting Dan all night after the concert to make sure he got home OK and we looked forward to the next time we hung out. That time never came and it breaks my heart because instantly I felt like he was like a little brother to me. Sorry for your loss to anyone who was close to Dan and had the pleasure of knowing him. I miss our conversations bud. You will be missed now and forever.
