FRANKLIN – Israel “Dave” Gonzalez, 86, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Lucille (Gorden) Gonzalez for 46 years before her death in 2012.
Born April 20, 1931 in El Paso, Texas, he was a son of the late Leo and Ann (Bevins) Gonzalez. He has been a resident of Franklin for the past 5 years. Dave grew up and lived most of his life in Albuquerque, New Mexico and lived in Attleboro several years before moving to Franklin.
Dave was a talented musician and travelled for many years playing in various bands across the United States, Europe and South America.
He was a freelance trumpeter who played for famous acts from the 1950’s until the 1970’s including Tito Puente, Ray Charles, Tito Rodriguez, Lionel Hampton, Doc Severinsen and others.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and played in the Navy Band.
When he stopped travelling he worked as the music director for the Albuquerque School System until retiring.
He loved playing cards and backgammon and spending time with friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Imre and husband Frank of South Attleboro; a sister Julie Cordova of Albuquerque; three grandchildren: Scott Black and wife Elizabeth of Attleboro, Nicole Gallagher and husband Dennis of New Hampshire and Thomas Imre of South Attleboro;
Five great-grandchildren: Stephanie and Brendan Black and Megan, Camryn and Hannah Gallagher; and also, several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Leo Gonzalez, Jr. and Angie Casaus.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 26 from 12-1 p.m. at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral service will be held after visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will take place privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
