Ole Larsen, 81, of Mattapoisett, passed away December 8, 2018 at home after a long battle with PSP. He was the husband of Madeline (Sevigny) Larsen sharing 53 years of marriage.
Born in Austrheim, Norway, he left his home country with the Merchant Marines and also served with the U.S. Army. Finding his way to the New Bedford area, Ole was a commercial fisherman for over 30 years, even travelling to Alaska for a King Crab season, and retiring as Captain of the F/V Valkyrie.
After retiring from fishing, he worked at C.P. Bourg and Reidar's Manufacturing. Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons, dining out, and time outdoors - cutting wood and yard work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Karen Dias and her husband Scott of Rochester, Diane Larsen and her partner Sharon Enos of Fairhaven; three grandsons, Ian and Noah Furtado and Brady Dias; two brothers, Harry and Roald Larsen; two sisters, Margit Solheim and Anlaug Slettbakk, all of Norway and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Magnar Austrheim.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
