Natalie S. Lawton 12/5/2018

Providence, RI – Natalie C. (Seaver) Lawton, 92, passed away on December 5, 2018, after a brief stay at Hallworth House Rehab and Nursing Center.  She was predeceased by her husband George C. Lawton, Jr, to whom she was married for 57 years.  She was most recently a resident of Pawtucket, RI, previously residing in Seekonk, Rehoboth, and Taunton, Mass.

Born in Brockton, Mass., on February 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ralph A. Seaver, Sr. and F. Rebecca (Raymond) Seaver.  She was a graduate of Taunton High School, and Boston University College of Music.  She majored in Piano (Applied Music) at BU and continued her studies through the years with private tutors of organ and voice.  She obtained her Master’s Degree when she was in her 70’s.

Music was Natalie’s life.  She started taking piano lessons at age 7 and played her first public performance as the accompanist at a cousin’s wedding at age 12.  She started giving piano lessons at age 16. 

Natalie’s career was diverse, working as Church Organist for many area churches throughout the years: North Attleboro First United Methodist Church, Hope Congregational Church, Rehoboth Baptist Church, St. Michael’s & All Angels, St. Paul’s, St. Pius, St. Raymond’s, Temple Beth-El Synagogue, Rehoboth Congregational Church. Most recently she enjoyed volunteering her time and talents as guest organist and pianist at Memorial Baptist Church.

She also worked in the Providence School Department’s music department as an accompanist for the glee clubs for six years.  During her years there, the Classical High School choral group traveled to and performed all over Italy, from Rome to Milan, with Natalie as the accompanist.  One of her career highlights was the six years with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale, under the founder Dr. Louis Pichierri, until his death.  She obtained that position after Dr. Pichierri heard her performance with the Rhode Island Opera Guild.

She continued teaching piano, organ, and voice lessons in her studio in Seekonk until she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.

Natalie is survived by her daughters Rebecca L. Gantz and her husband William of Norton, Mass; Pamela S. Trombley of East Providence, RI; Jennifer A. Lawton of Pawtucket, RI; and her stepdaughter Deborah L. Pelton and her husband Warren Sr. of Alton, NH; three granddaughters, Leah Trombley, Elizabeth Gantz Boulter and husband David, Katelyn Trombley and two step grandsons, Warren Pelton, Jr. and Eric Pelton, as well as niece Lynne Baldwin Doucette.  She also had 5 great-grandchildren.  Natalie was predeceased by her brother Ralph A. Seaver, Jr. and sister-in-law Janet (Lawton) Baldwin Green.  She was also predeceased by her beloved Pekingese Chiang one day prior to Natalie’s passing.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hope Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Nurse Kim Harden.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, December 22, 2018, at Memorial Baptist Church, 340 Central Avenue, Seekonk, Mass.  Friends and former students are invited.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
