ATTLEBORO – Gerard N. Champagne, 85, of Liberty Drive passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Lois E. (Kirby) Champagne.
Born March 11, 1933 in Providence, RI, he was a son of the late Charles and Eva (Champagne) Champagne.
Gerard grew up in Providence and was a 1951 graduate of Lasalle Academy. He was a resident of North Attleboro for over 30 years and has been in Attleboro the past 32 years.
He worked in the pro shop at Heather Hill Country Club in Plainville for 28 years and previously worked as an industrial engineer at Howard Sweet Co. in Attleboro and V.H. Blackinton in North Attleboro.
Gerard was a talented furniture maker and piano player. He loved playing the piano at family events and every Christmas party. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and especially enjoyed time spent with his family. He was a devoted Catholic and was a communicant over the years at Sacred Heart Church in North Attleboro and St. Stephen’s Parish in Attleboro and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Seekonk.
He is survived by four children: Normand Champagne and wife Rosalind of Attleboro, Robert Champagne of Attleboro, Ann Carlson of Raynham and Paul Champagne and wife Colleen of Attleboro;
A sister Jeannette Doyle of North Attleboro; and 45 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was father of the late Laura Champagne and brother of the late Armand, Leon, Henry, Alphonse and Louis Champagne and Bertha Thomas, Cecilia Gladeau and Loretta Champagne.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 25 from 4-7 p.m. at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, September 26 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro at 10 o’clock. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
