Alexander P. Midon 07/25/2018

NORTH ATTLEBORO- Alexander P. Midon, 88, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the adoring husband of Irene (Desilets) Midon for 67 years.  Together they raised 6 children, Dale (Rose), Bill (Hilary), Cindy (Bill) Desantis, Laurie (Mitch) McNally, Lisa Evansen and Christopher (Shelly).

Alex was born September 6, 1929 in Beaver Falls, PA to the late Alexander and Margaret (Makay) Midon.  He was a noted football player in high school.  At a recent Beaver Falls Hall of Fame dinner, his opposite end, Jim Mutschellar (who enjoyed a storied 8-year career with the Baltimore Colts) admitted during his induction acceptance speech as he pointed to Alex “truth be known, Alex was the better tight end, fastest player on the team.”  Alex remained close to his 2 brothers (Bill and Don) and his sister Rosetta (all but Don now deceased) though his siblings lived in PA and FL.

Alex proudly joined the US Navy after high school, was ultimately stationed at Quonset Point and received a commendation for bravery for his efforts in a fatal airplane crash.  Most importantly during his Navy days, one fateful Saturday evening, he and a friend attended a dance where he met the love of his life, Irene (Desilets).  He claimed he knew that very night that they would marry.  And, he was right.

Alex’s 6 children have provided him with 16 grandchildren: Angela Midon (Dale), Lauren Huntley, Dr. Kristen Woodward, Stephanie and Matthew Midon (Bill), Christopher, Michael and Patrick DeSantis (Cindy), Dr. Ryan McNally and Kimberly White (Laurie), Brent and Scott Evansen (Lisa) and Alexandra, Ashley, Emily and Zachary Midon (Chris) and he also has  12+ great-grandchildren:  Sam and James Shields  (Angela Midon); Theodore, Vivian and Owen Huntley (Lauren + Colin Huntley), Hughes Woodward (Dr Kristen + Andrew Woodward); Owen DeSantis (Chris + Michelle DeSantis); Arianna and Caden McNally (Dr Ryan and Shawna McNally), Isabella, Jaxon and Adley White (Kim and Mike White).  Family meant everything to Alex.  He lit up in the company of little children

Most of Alex’s career was spent in production management with various electronics and jewelry manufacturers in the greater Attleboro area, including the Foxboro Company, Augat Electronics and the Balfour Company.  Alex was a straight “A” night school student at Bryant College while balancing career and family.  His children could never complain about their school work.

Alex was an avid gardener, rock wall builder, woodworker, home improvement buff and lover of all things aviation.  He loved to needle people, especially his sons and sons-in-law, and ultimately became a Boston sports fan though the Pittsburg teams were never far from his heart.  Once the children got older, he and Irene became prolific ballroom dancers and dance instructors.  He danced until his last days, often with his granddaughters.

He loved music and ice cream, dogs and home-grown vegetables, but most of all, Alex loved people, and people loved him back!  He arguably worked too hard but later in life learned to love card playing with his children and their spouses, family gatherings (any excuse) and winters in Florida.  He was a most loving son, brother, friend, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will long be remembered by the many he touched during his life.

Private visitation for relatives and family members will be held at Sperry-McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, N. Attleboro, on Friday, August 3rd at 8:30 a.m.  Family, relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at 10 AM at St. Mark’s Church, 105 Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls, MA.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Towne Street, N. Attleboro, MA., and a lunch reception to celebrate Alex’s life will be held thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Attleboro Community VNA-Hospice Care, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA.  02703, and to St. Marks Church, 105 Stanley St, Attleboro Falls, MA 02763.
