NORTH ATTLEBORO - Joanne Marie Dee, born on April 15, 1942, passed away in her home on Sunday July 1, 2018 at the age of 76. Joanne’s best friend and companion, Dani, her King Charles Cavalier was by her side as always. Joanne was born in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston to Michael Settino and Mary (Hurst) Settino. She was the oldest of four children and sadly, outlived all of her siblings, Judith Mullin, Michael Settino, and John Settino. Joanne spent the majority of her younger years in Braintree where the family moved to when they left Dorchester.
Joanne attended and graduated from Fontbonne Academy in Milton in 1960. Joanne eventually began working at the Boston Horticultural society and became involved with the US Embassy. This is when Joanne got what she referred to as “the opportunity of a lifetime”. Joanne was sent to Sweden to work for the embassy. She spent three years in Sweden and was even crowned as Santa Lucia in the annual Santa Lucia parade. Joanne surprised her whole family when she returned from Sweden with a little Boston Terrier, Lilan who she was crazy about!
Once home, Joanne was introduced through her cousin David to John C. Dee. The two fell in love and were married in 1967. Joanne and John spent their marriage raising three daughters, keeping a home in Needham and living life to the fullest.
Their move from New Jersey to Needham in 1978 is when Joanne met her best friend, Linda Edlin and her beautiful family. The two families grew together quickly and formed a bond that has lasted until this very day.
Joanne spent her time in Needham participating in many activities with her daughters such as being a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, assistant coaching softball teams, sewing flags for town events, and cutting orange slices for soccer games. Whether it was making homemade play-dough, dancing to the Sesame Street record, hosting birthday parties, attending dance recitals, or making elaborate Halloween costumes, Joanne was always involved in something.
Joanne moved to North Attleboro in 2013 and has spent her years being involved in the St. Vincent De Paul, the local food pantry, the Guild, and attending St. Mary’s parish.
Joanne outlived her husband, the late John C. Dee (June 21, 1945-October 1, 1991). She is survived by her three daughters; Laura Dee, Jennifer Moquin (Dee) and husband Marc Moquin, Allyson Montana (Dee) and wife Sarah Montana. Joanne also leaves behind 6 grandchildren Maya, Noah, Olivia, Elijah, Isabella, and River who were the lights of her life. Joanne has many nieces and nephews she held dear whom she also leaves behind; Michael, Julie, Vicky, Matthew, Robyn, Billy, and David. She is survived by her aunt, Dr. Dorothy Miller, sister-in-law Jacqueline Milani and her brother-in-law Edward Mullin.
