NORTH ATTLEBORO – Walter “Buddy” Michael McGovern, 85, of Reservoir Street passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at LifeCare Center of Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Margaret H. (Pepper) McGovern who died in 2014.
Born August 5, 1932 in Attleboro, he was a son of the late Margaret McGovern.
Walter grew up in Attleboro and was a graduate of Attleboro schools. He has been a resident of North Attleboro since 1962.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and worked as a lapidarist (stone cutter) at Balfour from 1959 until retiring in 1995. In retirement he worked part-time at his son, Gregg’s business, Better Automotive Services from 1996 until 2005.
Walter loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing both locally and on Cape Cod Canal. He loved to visit Plymouth Harbor and watch the boats and scenery and then have dinner at Isaac’s Restaurant. He met every Sunday for coffee with his friends and was a longtime member of the Balfour Golddusters.
He is survived by three sons: Michael McGovern and wife Pamela (Parsons) McGovern of South Attleboro, Jeff McGovern and fiancé Michele Newman of North Attleboro and Gregg McGovern of North Attleboro;
Two grandsons: Joshua and Ryan McGovern both of South Attleboro;
And his beloved dog, Peanuts.
He was brother of the late Rita Forget.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service with U.S. Army Honors will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, South Main Street (Route 152), Attleboro.
