PLAINVILLE – Elizabeth F. “Betty” Burkewitz, 79, a lifelong resident of Plainville passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
She was the loving wife of the late John W. “Bud” Burkewitz, Jr. for 35 years until his death in 2005.
Born May 14, 1938 in Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys (Hutchinson) McQuade.
Betty was the valedictorian of her 1956 Plainville High School class and then received a B.S. in medical secretarial work at Bryant College.
She worked for Bird Machine in Walpole, Texas Instruments in Attleboro and U.S. Army Labs in Natick before retiring from One Beacon Insurance Company in Foxboro.
She and her husband were avid golfers.
Betty is survived by sister Joan Clarke and husband Bill of Plainville; her step-son Bart Burkewitz and wife Kim of Norwich, CT; her step-daughter Lee Lewis of Beverly; two grandchildren: Kristopher and Jaimie Burkewitz.
She was a loving aunt to Peter Clarke and wife Hope, Janet Lombardo and husband Ted; and grandnieces and nephews: Chelsea Prioli, USCG and husband Michael, USCG, Kaileigh Lombardo, Nathaniel Clarke; and one cousin: Robert Barney.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 1-3 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A memorial service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 3 p.m. with burial to follow at Plainville Cemetery.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at the Dialysis Center of Attleboro, the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, and the doctors and nurses in the Medical ICU at Rhode Island Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Michael Thursby.
