Peter M. Chace 10/12/2016

North Attleboro – Born in Auburn NY, Peter was the son of the late Emelda (Le Blanc) “Millie” Chace and Artner Chace.  He was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro MA, growing up on Pleasant Street, then residing on Westside Avenue for over 45 years.

Pete served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 – 1959. He was a foreman for Rudd Murray Pools throughout the 1960s and ‘70s and then ran his own business, ‘Chace Carpentry’, until retiring in April. Upon retirement, Pete said “All these years I thought I was gaining customers, I was really making friends.”

He was a proud and devoted father to his three children; Peter Chace Jr, fiancé Angela, of Cumberland RI, Rian Chace, wife Brenda, of Plainville MA and Kerri (Chace) O’Connor, husband Paul, of Holbrook MA. He was always there to lend a hand, give advice or fix anything broken.

He was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Rian Chace of Pawtucket RI, Randall Chace of Lincoln RI and Isabelle & Emileigh O’Connor of Holbrook MA. They were his pride and joy and his involvement with them was admirable, once going to a pre-school graduation and a high school graduation on the same day.

Pete was the big brother to his siblings, Judith (Chace) Doyle, Artner “Butch" Chace, and the late Meredith “Merry” Chace.

Some of Pete’s fondest memories were of summers spent with his family gathered at Newfound Lake in Bristol NH.

He loved reading and dining out and missed his true calling of being a food critic. The family would laugh and say he was secretly the “Phantom Gourmet.” He was a longtime member of The Elks-1011 in NA and enjoyed playing cards on Friday nights at the North End Social club. He supported the NA Animal Shelter for many years. He was a one of a kind man, who will be truly missed and forever remembered and loved.

The family will be honoring Pete’s wishes with a celebration of his life at The Elks, 52 Bullfinch Street, North Attleboro MA on Sunday, Oct 23rd from 12:00 – 4:00. Friends are welcome.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in his memory, to the North Attleboro Animal Shelter, 43 South Washington St North Attleboro, MA 02760.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sperry Mchoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, MA

Audrey & I benefited from Pete's considerable carpentry skills over the years, but more importantly, we benefited from his sense of humor. Our thoughts are with you.

Michelle, Jason, Rachel, and I are so sorry for your loss. Pete was a great guy with a fun laugh and a tremendous skill for carpentry and conversation. He "took care of us" for years -- doing many jobs big and small -- and we always told our friends there was nobody better than "Mr. Chace." Every time we look at some of his beautiful handiwork in our home, we will think of him.

We were one of Pete's many long-term, very satisfied customers and we considered him our friend, just as he said. He was a great carpenter and a font of knowledge for all things that needed fixing. He was also a nice man, always honest and caring. We will miss him and we are sorry for your loss.

Rian & Brenda, Sorry for your loss. I know what it is like to lose a great man. But in my experience, his presence will always be felt on this earth as I walk through life with honor and integrity, and the understanding of what is most important: happiness. I hope you have the same experience.
