PLAINVILLE – William “Bill” Park, 92, of Plainville passed away early Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. He was the loving husband of Eleanor (Skawinski) Park who died in 2016.
Born March 16, 1925 in Attleboro, he was a son of the late Ernest and Helen (Herard) Park.
Bill was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro before moving to Plainville several years ago. He also wintered in Florida for many years.
Bill attending North Attleboro High School but left after his freshman year to serve as a combat veteran in World War II. He served the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Alabama for four years and was involved in 10 major battles in the Pacific Ocean and also led U.S. Navy ships into Tokyo Japan for the signing of the peace treaty.
After the war he worked several years at Grimaldi Construction before entering service on the North Attleboro Fire Department. He was a firefighter for 32 years before retiring as Deputy Fire Chief in 1980.
Bill loved to play hockey and was a member of the Oldies Hockey Team in Rhode Island for ten years.
He is survived by his two sons: Timothy Park of San Diego, CA and Kevin Park of Plainville;
A sister, Ann Park Hill of North Attleboro;
Two grandsons, Bryan and Michael Park
And four great-grandchildren: Colby, Hailey Rose, Bentley and Natalia Park.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 8 – 9:30 a.m. at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral Mass will be celebrated after visitation at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 105 Stanley Street, Attleboro Falls.
Burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
